Side Panels

The side panels contain the controls found to either side of the editor. The side panel on the left is called the math objects panel, while the one on the right is called the editing panel. These names describes the kinds of controls found in each panel by default, but they are not limited to showing particular kinds of controls.

You can toggle whether a panel is visible from the View menu by choosing the panel by name.

Palettes

Within each panel are palettes. A palette is a group of related controls. Choosing the white arrow next to a palette’s name will toggle the palette open or closed. Closing the palette hides the controls, leaving only the name visible.

The editor comes with a number of palettes built in, but not all of the built-in palettes are visible in the default panel configuration. It is also possible to add new, custom palettes with a plugin. You can change which palettes are shown by customizing the side panels.

Customizing the panels

Choose View/Customize Panels to open the customization dialog. The dialog has three columns:

  1. The Available column lists palettes that do not appear in either panel.
  2. The Math objects column lists the palettes in the math objects panel.
  3. The Editing column lists the palettes in the editing panel.

To add a palette to a panel, drag it from the Available list and drop it in the desired panel column.

To move a palette to a different panel, drag and drop it from its current panel to the new panel column.

To change the order of a palette within a panel, drag and drop it at its desired position.

To remove a palette from a panel, drag and drop it in the Available column, or just drop it outside of all of the columns.

Palette variants

Some palettes come in different variants, such as “compact.” These palettes show the name of the current variant and a small button after the palette name. Repeatedly choosing the button will cycle the palette through all of its variants.

Custom palettes

Custom palettes are additional palettes beyond those supplied with the app. If you have added custom palettes, they will be listed in a different colour than the built-in palettes. They will start at the top of the Available column, but can be added to panels by dragging and dropping like any other palette. They can also be deleted by right clicking on them and choosing Delete Custom Palette.
