Write math on your computer

At Math I Can Do, we want you to write math on your computer as easily as you can write an essay. We spent thousands of hours studying how people think and write math: the result is an editor that’s up to 3 times faster than pencil and paper!

Faster, easier, neater homework

Finish your homework faster, neater, and with fewer mistakes. Write math using the same notation you learn in class: there’s no need to learn a special layout language! Pick commands with point-and-click or use sensible shortcut keys. Work faster with our smart commands and forgiving selection and deletion that don’t punish imprecision.

Take it for a spin

Our editor isn’t finished yet, but you can try a sneak peek online. For the full experience, join the beta program for our desktop app! Once you’ve tried it out, be sure to let us know what you think. Your feedback will help us make a great editor even better!

Features

Our editor finally brings writing math fully into the digital age. Lots of tools let you stick one equation in a forum post or document. These are made to share math you’ve already figured out. Our editor is for writing math, whether it’s a single equation or an entire homework set. With Math I Can Do, there are no extra steps: solve the math and get it ready to share at the same time!

Fast, beautiful math

Equation editors are slow and hard to use. Who wants the bother? That’s why we worked with usability experts to redesign writing math from the ground up. Take a few minutes to learn the basics and you’ll be writing math up to 3 times faster than with pencil and paper!

Fewer mistakes

The most common errors students make aren’t math-related at all, but misreading their own handwriting or making copying errors going from one line to the next. With our textbook-quality output, messy work is a thing of the past! Plus, our unique math-aware editing tools make common tasks like starting the next step of a problem a snap—no copying required! We’re working hard to bring even more error-proofing tools to upcoming versions.

Flexible tutoring

With Math I Can Do, you can use screen sharing to get math help without changing out of your PJs! Whether it’s virtual office hours with your professor, homework help from a friend, a distance enrichment course, or a professional tutoring service, our editor is the perfect medium for doing math together.

Easy sharing

Using LaTeX to share math online is a pain. It takes time to learn, it’s hard to read, and you have to switch back and forth between writing code and checking if it says what you mean. Math I Can Do makes math easy to share. You can print it, save it as LaTeX or MathML, or even convert it to a PNG or SVG image. And we’re adding support for more new ways to share your work all the time!

Accessible

We’re working to make our editor more accessible to everyone. We’ve already taken steps to support users with learning difficulties, and we’re currently working on other accessible features, such as speech output.

Comprehensive and standards-based

Math I Can Do supports writing math from grade school to college level and beyond: from student to STEM professional. Our notation is based on international standards like ISO 80000-2, making it easy to collaborate with colleagues around the globe!

Embeddable and customizable

Want to use our editor for math editing on your site using our flexible API? We’d love to work with you to find the best solution for your needs and budget.

About our logo

Our logo was inspired by a geometric proof by rearrangement of the Pythagorean theorem. That’s the theorem that in a right-angled triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sums of the squares of the other two sides. (The hypotenuse is the side opposite of the right angle.)

COVID-19

Update (2022):
While COVID’s impact has been blunted in many parts of the world, the situation remains unpredictable. We will continue to offer free access to our technology to students, teachers, and schools. Furthermore, rest assured that we will not simply revoke access without warning when this program ends. We are committed to automatically transitioning everyone in the special access program to our limited beta program, where they will continue to enjoy access to our desktop app.

February 2020
This is a challenging time. Like most people, we at Math I Can Do are looking for ways to help. In this spirit, I’m delighted to announce that we have opened our free beta program up to students, teachers, parents, and others looking for tools to help them adapt math classes for online learning and school closures. Math I Can Do is committed to keeping our beta desktop editor available for as long as necessary to support schools during this time, and during the recovery afterward.

FREE access for students and teachers:
Get the desktop edition

We recommend the full-feature desktop edition, but we’ve also made a web edition of the editor available to schools for those who can’t install the full app.

To respond to classroom needs, we’re releasing updates on a faster schedule than usual. If you have a question, suggestion, or request, get in touch through our website or by choosing Help/Send Feedback in the app. Provide a contact email so we can get clarification or provide direct support.

Be safe, and look out for each other.
